Discover Prague

Course meets during Spring I 2027 term (the first eight weeks of the spring semester) on Fridays from 10:45am to 12:00pm.

Travel occurs during Spring Break: March 5 - 14, 2027 (+/- 1-3 days)

This course is an introduction to Czech history and art in the context of Central European culture, including the origins of the ̽»¨Ö±²¥ heritage. We survey European architecture before departing on a weeklong trip to Prague, where all architectural styles of the last thousand years are on display. In addition to enjoying the beauty of Prague, we will see an opera, take a day trip to a castle, and spend the last two days in imperial Vienna.

Cost

  • Self-Pay Travel Cost (Students who are not Elevate Credit Eligible):  $2,800

Day 1: Overnight flight to Prague.

Day 2: Arrive in Prague, drop bags at hotel, hit Mucha Museum, Vyšehrad views, and riverside highlights.

Day 3: Prague Castle highlights (King’s Palace, St. Vitus tower), Old Town and bridges, evening opera at Estates Theater (Falstaff); dinner independently.

Day 4: Karolinum tour, St. Vitus Cathedral, Lennon Wall, Charles Bridge, Klementinum/Library loop; dinner independently.

Day 5: Jewish Quarter hits (Klaus, Pinkas, Old Cemetery), Municipal House, sweets stop; opera: The Marriage of Figaro; dinner independently.

Day 6: Day trip to Karlštejn Castle, then back to Prague to pack.

Day 7: Travel to Olomouc for campus/city tour, then continue to Vienna and check in.

Day 8: Vienna city overview, Anker Clock, Schönbrunn Palace, classic café break.

Day 9: Free day picks: Mozart Museum, Secession, Capuchin Crypt, Albertina, Bratislava, Central Cemetery, Hundertwasser Museum; dinner independently.

Day 10: Fly home from Vienna.
